Kanaleneiland

Kanaleneiland is a neighborhood in the south-west of Utrecht. It was built during the sixties as a part of of a big city expansion project. Nowadays the neighborhood is being regarded as an impoverished area. 76% of its inhabitants are non-Dutch, and the crime rate is high.  I used to live there for four years and I never had a bad experience. During that time I noticed national media were being more negative about the neighborhood then then I experienced it myself.

Spam

Wallpainting I made in W139 (Amsterdam) as a part of my graduation project.  Little programs search the internet and copy paste random lines of text and put them together in spam-mail to fool peoples spamfilter, the product message comes in an attached image. These painted lines come from spam I actually received in my spambox. The quote has totally been taken out of context by hand-painting it on a monumental scale in Didot in an artspace.

Rietveld in de kerk

This installation was being exhibited at the ‘Rietveld in de Kerk’ show in the Oude Kerk, Amsterdam. I manipulated the typewriters ‘face’ in such a way that the author distorts his own message while typing. The person following should be able to translate the message by comparing the two proofs. It illustrates the passing on of information through time.
